Safety Transit Time (STT)
Like the Delivery Safety Time, Safety Transit Time (STT) is linked to a transportation route. All parts delivered in the same truck have the same STT.
To define a STT, you need to take in account the following points:
- In the real world, it is difficult to slow down transportation speed. Using the use of STT has as consequence an early arrival of the material in most of cases. 2 solutions: you accept the material as soon as it arrives and you loose the main advantage of the STT versus DST (no extra in-house inventory) or you require the driver to wait its time slot. In this case, the waiting line could be important at the entrance of your site an become a safety hazard for traffic if you do not have a right sized parking area;
- Slowing down transportation maybe not compliant with the material ordered. Plastic parts in a regular trailer at -20°c may be not usable immediately for production. Using DST is maybe a better solution to warm-up them before usage.
